Power Rankings Week 11 (Post-trade Deadline)
It’s been a wild ride in the Alumni League since the writers association put out their week 7 power rankings. Between a flush of trades, injuries, and timely pickups, the landscape is shaping up to excite with a few juggernauts battling for the Odin Cup.
1. (5) Scalzo
Scalzo went to the Ziggy well and plucked out a minor addition named Justin Jefferson. After that, I’m not sure we can rank him anywhere else but the top. He will likely continue putting up 140+ games with the stacked lineup and even the potential loss of Everett probably won’t matter. Hes got 3 WR1s and 3 RB1s, with Mahomes to top it off. Anything but a chip is a disappointment at this point.
2. (11) Montufar
Montufar successfully topped off what was a solid core with 4 additional starters in Ekeler, Higgins, Lockett, and Dak. Going along with the pickup and emergence of Foreman, Ant actually has a team that can and will win games now. Ultimately, it didn’t even cost him that much draft capital. The last three weeks in livin la vida loca are going to leave some teams very disappointed with their final records.
3. (1) Dan
Dan finally caved and made a move for Barkely, realizing his already stacked team was not enough to compete with the newly bolstered teams around the league. We still like Dan’s chances, but he just needs more consistency from Kamara and Olave. Keenan’s continued injury problems have hurt the WR room. Dan can still easily put up 150+, but we just don’t like his chances to do so as much as the other two top three teams.
4. (7) Cherone
Tyler gifting the artist formerly known as Big Tony a win by benching Hopkins in his return allowed this squad to see a light at the end of the playoff tunnel. They went out and started the trade mania but making a move for Diggs. Followed by a savvy acquisition of Mixon hours before he would have dropped 50, instead bringing the beat down to Zack his former manager. A solid team but we have the same concerns as for Dan’s squad - will they be consistently elite?
5. (3) Nando
This ranking is more out of acclamation than any concerted effort by the fighting nandos to put together a playoff contender. Continued shirking of the RB position led to a panic buy on Pollard who’s soon to be usurped by Jerry’s boy Zeke once he returns from injury. Nando still has some juice in Allen, Kelce, and his WR room, but we don’t think it will be enough to make a real run for the cup.
6. (8) Bnoll
A for effort. Boll smelled blood with division leader Justin deciding to cut bait. Unfortunately for Brian, his latest addition Swift has not been what he’d hoped for yet, and has nagging injury concerns. We believe Swift, Andrews, and Brian will right the ship and make it into the playoffs as his division is still very weak. What he can actually do in the playoffs is a guessing game, but prepare for a potential upset if JT is back in form.
7. (2) Marc
No team is going to be able to recover from losing their best player (Kupp), especially when management was asleep at the wheel before the deadline. This year is not like previous, and you had to make a move to compete. The last minute bottom of the barrel buy on Patterson probably won’t be enough. We just didn’t see the commitment from the front office, hinting at a lack of confidence in the squad. It’s tough to see Marc sneaking into the playoffs on anything but luck with 3 games to finish the season in LLVL.
8. (9) Justin
Justin is only at 8 due to his record and low scoring win over Marc last week. He somehow still has a chance to make the playoffs if things fall the right way, but only if. He sold his best players, and will throw some waiver wire scrubs out to play spoiler.
9. (4) Tyler
Ever since the loss to Big Tony it’s been all downhill for Tyler. Despite what we maintain was a solid squad, Tyler couldn’t put enough wins together to be in a position to contend. Even after selling off his major assets he probably has the best overall squad of the sellers, but it might be tough to keep up the motivation with no obvious path to the playoffs.
10. (6) Zack
We’re really splitting hairs here, but at least he has Pierce to bolster what will surely be sub-100 scores the rest of the way. Zack is getting into Daddy form early. When will a Dad break from the pack?
11 (6) Ziggy
Another year, another dud for Ziggy. Hard to find a silver lining on this team, except for it’s not the absolute worst?
12. Enoll
Traded away his best keeper for picks he apparently didn’t value at all last year. It’s telling just how bad Eric’s team was that he couldn’t sell a single piece to a contender. Doesn’t look like Eric hit on a single waiver pickup even with all that roster flexibility. Not only did Eric throw away this season, but he goes into the next with few keeper options as well. Sad!
